Melasti is a Balinese Hindu purification ceremony held in preparation for Nyepi, the Day of Silence. Communities gather by the sea to cleanse sacred objects and symbolically release impurities, negative energies and the burdens of the past. During the rituals, some participants enter states of trance, adding an intense physical dimension to a ceremony centered on purification, spiritual balance and renewal.
